Mavericks FC 2-2 BPFC

Scorers: BingXian, PengYong
Assists: PengYong, BingXian

Missing in the team were Guoxing, Yuhao, HongYun, Favian, Shengjie and Steven. The SAF has cruelly taken away 3 of them whilst NUS has taken 2 of our beloved players away for mid term tests. Whilst one last guy, his name kept anonymous by the press, was seemingly AWOL after failing to provide a reason for his absence for the day's game, after merely a 'oon: i cannot make it..' message on the tagboard. Thats 6 first teamers missing but BPFC took to the challenge to show depth and character throughout the team.

The defence didnt had much makeshifts as Kai, Joel, Kel and Ang protected Keeper Jackson in goal. However, it was an entirely new look midfield, the only familiar face is the presence of mercurial Bing Xian where Shuheng played alongside him in centre mid. Flanked by PengYong and Alan, Mark and Alison completes the line up upfront.

And the referee of the day came all the way from Nigeria. Jon Wootakar is his name and he wore the same colour as the opponent. And these were early signs of his professionalism.

The first half saw few chances for both sides as the game was played under the sweltering heat. An early burst down the right flank for right back Ang almost took his life as he struggled for fitness throughout the game. The same scenario was happening for a few other team members where Kai requested for an early substitution for Kian Tat midway through the first half.

A change in position saw rock for the day Joel Yeo being shifted to centre mid as the unfit PTI needed a much awaited breather. The oxymoron in 'unfit PTI' was intended. Mark showed why his FM stats showed Acceleration, Pace, Natural fitness all 20 as his speed was a constant menace to the Mavericks defence. And the best thing was,

"You tired a not?" Ang
"No ah i not tired." Mark

That reply was as good as a wtf to Ang whose golden days were clearly behind him as age catches up on him. Takraw sounds like a better game to him where all he had to do is to stand at the same spot and wait for the ball to come. Alison also worked hard as he constantly tracked back to cover the midfielders and shackled the opponents.

And of course, our star player of the day BX did all he could to link up everyone and his wicked freekick in the first half so nearly curled into the net. Just a little more swerve wud have done it. Time to revise on your Physics equations to find out the optimum angle for the most swerve.

And so end of the first half, all square at 0-0 and there was hardly any chances for both side.

The second half was all a different story.

Joel's slight barge onto the attacker, who was clearly not anywhere near scoring, was deemed as a penalty by Jon Wootakar. You sometimes wonder what all these years at Potsmaof has done to him. And a penalty we conceded.

They soon added their tally to 2-0. A good cross from their right flank saw their attacker unmarked and he duly headed the ball pass on rushing Jackson. It was a good goal and kudos to the Mavericks attackers.

BPFC looks doomed and was seemingly sinking without trace. Seemingly.

The team fought hard and with more provokes from the opponents, spirits were lifted and that was clearly reflected by the fighting Shuheng. He chased opponents right to their back so much so that the every breath he took could be heard by the opponent. His determination closed down space for the opponents and made it hard for them to play.

Studs and boots came flying in soon after. Pengyong nearly broke his feet after a studs in from the opponents. We thank god that his leg didnt broke if not the score would still have been 2-0. Amitabha.

His trickery and runs in the box proved too hot to handle for the Mavericks defence who brought him down in the box. Up steps set piece specialist Bing Xian who sent the keeper diving the RIGHT way. Nonetheless, the sheer placement and speed of the ball was enough for the scoreboard to flash 2-1, with less than 1o minutes to go.

BPFC had other ideas. Time and again our freekicks and corners was our main threat. PengYong so nearly could have converted on many occasions but lady luck was not on his side.

The mentality was set to 'All out attack' as reflected by Kelvin's countless surging runs into the opposing half. Our hardwork was paid off. Set piece specialist Bing Xian does it again. This time round, he revised his physics equations during the half time break and the ball was sent right to PengYong's head. Though the ball didnt really hit the back of the net, it still trickled over the line and what matters at the end of the day is as simple as that. 2-2 to BPFC.

Alison's market value also rose after an excellent showing on the pitch. His remarkable contributions included a ghostly run past the opposing defender where only his final shot let him down. And that was probably the best move throughout the day.

The depth of BPFC was truly tested today as there was hardly any signs of free flowing football which the Gaffer have promised to the fans. Even though most of us are saying that we would surely beat them if we have a full squad, bear in mind that they have many players missing as well. So we shall eagerly await a rematch with Mavericks FC.

Team fund now stands at $57. And yes Bing Xian, it was possible that all of us can pay just 30 cents for today's game. However, due to the club's strict financial policies, that was deemed as not feasible by the BPFC board of directors. One sometimes have to consider that we are in no way comparable to Man City's Abu Dhabi United Group and we got to enforce certain rules and regulations to ensure that the club doesnt go into receivership. The kind understanding of all players is highly appreciated.

Furthermore, Officer Cadet Lim Hong Yun has been issued a 2nd letter of warning after failing to pay up during the block leave. He still owes the team fund $5. The club is unable to ensure smooth running and meet all financial budgets under such circumstances. And by the way, we wish Yun and happy 21st birthday even though he is unable to read this blog!

And also, kindly read Team Mavericks match report on their website and their cockness can match mine. Team Mavericks and yes, you have been brought to their team site and there is no mistake. (layout is e same!)

Team fund now has $57 and Shengjie has a voucher of $10 to be used, but min purchase is $60.
We can either save up or use the $10 and buy 2 balls. As suggested by SJ, there is no point buying Mikasa balls as the probability of it being donated to schools and construction sites is very high. So what are you waiting for? Cast your vote now on the right! Woo!

Cya till the next game!
Old man Ang

PS: No more Damien Duff, Beckham, Ronaldo. The in thing is now Guoxing.

1-5 and then 6-1

Due to the regular convectional rain in the afternoons, last week's game against Raffles JC team was cancelled and BPFC maintained their 100% unbeaten record.

And so we wished.

Truth was that we succumbed to our first defeat of the year, and a really heavy one. BPFC was whacked real hard, being exposed in all areas for the first time. Outmuscled, outpaced, outplayed. We lost almost all aerial battles and the ball hardly moved out of our half. Their left winger time and again made full use of his pace to run riot at our defence, scoring 4 goals along the way and made our defenders looked non existent.

"Our defenders are lacking match experience and it takes time for us to learn and improve." Xing

End of the day, the scoreline reads RJC 5-1 BPFC. And so which hero scored the one?!

Ang scored his first goal for the club and added yet another kuku goal to his soccer career. He prefers to call it the striking instinct, being in the right place at the right time. Playing at a right midfield role, he perservered and closed down the opponent all the way into the penalty box. His determination was paid off when opposing defender was given no space for a proper clearance as he was charged down by speedy winger Ang. The ball hit the shin of Ang and fell to the back of the net. Excellent finishing. Fortuitous goal? I beg to differ as we should always look at things from other angles to gain new perspectives.

Look at the traits in red. It makes us wonder why Ang has never represented Singapore before.

Alright back to the game at Kranji Sec.

Ang and Kel returned for club duty after representing Faculty of Science for soccer in the morning. Just let me vent my frustrations since i don have a personal blog. It was heartbreaking moments for the 2 BPFC veteran defenders as they missed out narrowly on a spot in the semi finals. Level on points, level on head-to-head record, level on goal difference, it all boiled down to the goals for component. The last game between SDE and Arts proved decisive as any score lesser than 3-0 in a 30mins game would meant that Science would advance. Life sucks and it wasnt meant to be. SDE 3-0 Arts. WTF.

Goalkeeper Kai withdrew from the team right before kickoff as he was cruelly tied down to school work at NTU. It left the team with no goalkeeper and 11 outfield players. Kelvin bravely volunteered for the role even though that position was fiercely contested by Ang as well as both of them were already suffering from cramps.

Opponents were a sea of green yet again. With all of them donning the TEAM TJC colours. It feels like we have just registered ourselves in this year's Nationals A divisions, last week playing RJC and this week playing TJC.

And so kel started in goal and there werent much changes in other departmens of the team. We started the game with no substitutes though Jack and Ali did come later in their volleyball attired with no boots as they had only intended to be spectators i guess.

The game started fast and furious and Yuhao scored within 5 minutes. Making his presence a nuisance in the opposing defence, he managed to win the ball and created for himself a one on one chance with the keeper which he then converted. 1-0.

Kel also gave the team an early scare after he dribbled the ball out of the box when instead he could have simply used his hands to hold on to the ball.

Not too long after, Steven's curling inswinging corner deceived the Keeper's hands and it again fell to Yuhao to put it to the back of the net. 2-0 BPFC.

You sometimes wonder why Mark Hughes and his Abu Dhabi counterparts are willing to spend 32.5 million on Robinho when they could have paid just 17.5 million more to pry Yuhao away from BPFC. For obvious sporting reasons, Gaffer Ang would definitely not hesitate to accept the deal. If thats the case, our team fund of $47 would then read $50,000,047. How impressive is that.

It was brilliant play from BPFC throughout as we dominated the game and converted our chances.

"You want to go attack the corner?" - Shengjie
"You go lah, I don want." - Ang

Ang's high level of benovelence proved crucial and another inswinging corner from steven was headed into the goal by Shengjie. Imagine the conversation changing to "you stay back, i go up". Then Ang would have gotten his second goal for the club.

Xing then scored a final goal in the first half after latching onto a long ball from Shuheng. Running down just at a speed slightly slower than the speed of light, you sometimes wonder if you should apply Einstein's equations of general relativity on Xing. He burst into flames and later on blasted an unstoppable drive that rocked the net. The field warden should be glad after the game that luckily there isnt any hole in the net. 4-0 at half time.

BPFC slacked off in the second half and the opponents saw plenty of the ball. They could have got one back early on when an open goal was missed by their attacker after an impressive stand-in keeper had attempted to punch the cross away in an acrobatic dive. They soon got a goal back to make the score 4-1 though the referee admitted after the game that the opponents were offside. So why did he allow the goal? How i know sia.

Ang then decided to sub himself out for Jackson as he was at the point where every single move will result in a cramp. This subsitution proved to be crucial later on.

BingXian's lobbing corner proved too much to handle for the TJCians as it fell to PengYong who slotted the ball home with the inside of his foot. 5-1.

It was again BingXian's assist for the 6th as Jackson's debut as an outfield player ended in a goal despite being on the pitch for only about 5 minutes. He converted the corner after a run in saw him totally unmarked. It just goes to show how much he had studied striker's movements during corners during corners. So much so that he is now able to replicate these movements and make himself useful when playing outfield.

And again, imagine the Gaffer didnt make this move to sub himself. It could have been Ang's goal.

And hence the scorers for this game should read:

Yuhao -2
Xing -1
Pengyong -1
Ang -2

hahaha.

Kelvin has now been named 3rd choice goalkeeper of BPFC after an impressive performance in between the posts. His sheer presence kept the opponents at bay as they didnt even dare to take shots. 3 cheers to the man of the moment, Kelvin Lin.

The fund now has a positive SGD47 after today's collection of fees. The club would also like to send a gentle reminder to soon-to-be PTE LIM HONG YUN for the owing of $5 for the game at bukit Timah field nearly 2 months ago. We hope you can find sufficient money to pay up soon.

How much is a Mikasa ball btw?
Also take note that a site hit counter has been added on your right!
