BPFC earns credible draw with Team Orange
Sometimes u just think a certain shaggy xhing on ESPN likes to spout rubbish. But yea, sometimes he is just wrong.
"This is a game of 2 halves."
Indeed.
Up against a more established and from every angle bigger and stronger opponents (then again, since when are we bigger sized than our opponents?), it looks as if we were odds on to lose the game. If live betting from Singapore Pools ever worked for BPFC, i would even bet on Team Orange to win after the early exchanges. We were constantly pressed in our half, albeit not crumbling. We were short on ideas, constantly depending on counter attacks launched aimlessly to first-touch-flick-it-up striker. But still, the most notable thing our keeper had to do in the first half was just a firm solid catch from one of their balls sent in. The commanding presence of newly promoted 4th Choice keeper in Peng Yong proved to be pivotal. After his last minute heroices in saving a certain goal at Marsiling Sec, PY lived up to his name with yet another resounding performance.
The second half proved to be a different story like what shaggy xhing had guessed. Not only did our striker had the audacity to do more back flicks, our fitness appears to be taking us to the next level, exploiting spaces and outrunning opposing defences. T.O. drew first blood when an ubber dubber obvious handball in our box went unspotted by the referee. Their striker latched on to the error and punished us for the referee's mistake. The shot was too fast for stand in keeper Ang to react, henceforth, despite having a touch, the ball trickled into the net. It was Deja vu for the English fans, as Ang appeared to have done a Robert Green, desperately salvaging the ball that seemed destined for the net.
All was not lost. First half keeper PY showed why he was desperate to start outfield despite being late for the game. 1-1 the scorelines reads and we are back. We never looked back since and continued down the flanks, with skillful Lem bursting down the left flank and with that wicked left foot of his, it was only a matter of time before the number 10 got into his stride. Brought down in the penalty box for having too much pace, the number 10 made no mistake this time round in converting the penalty. 2-1.
And as we continued to exert our dominance on the game, disaster struck when a long ball into the defence went uncommunicated, leaving Ang with the last hope of stopping the attacker. The rest was history as I went to pick the ball up from the back of the net.
Perhaps, a draw would be the best result for both teams, in a game played in 2 halves.
