BPFC back in full force

My return from Finland has seen the team play 2 games in a short one month, compared to 1 game in the first 6 months of the year. However, this is largely dependent on how free i am to organise, and hence not sustainable. Below are the new plans for the future.

1. Hong Yun and Peng Yong will join me in organising games.
2. We will play once in 2 weeks and this will be fixed. After each game, pls inform us if u can make it 2 weeks later.
3. A facebook group and a footballopod website has been created. FB is more for using the events application, while footballopod is for us to source for opponents. U can view the footballopod site here.
4. We will start to play games that cost 80-90 each game, the only way for us to sustain playing once in 2 weeks.
5. Our first choice slot for each game is Sunday 3pm. If this is not available for most, Saturday will be the next alternative.

Since now we are hoping to make it a fix 2 weeks after a previous game, it would also be easier for you to organise your own timings.

Issue 1: Regarding recruiting frens permanently into the team, this discussion will be postponed until further notice. Im sure you don want to one day end up turning up for BPFC duty, realising that half the team are your fren's frens. Favian is keen for a return to football, despite only able to jog in 6 months' time. Henceforth, we will stick with these 16 players for the time being and see how things go.

Issue 2: Its not been the first time since ive been asked by opponents why we arent playing in league. My answer is always the same, that we cant commit during exam periods. If everyone is keen for it, which also saves trouble from the organising comittee, we will aim at playing after most have grduated, in about 2-3 years' time. Its not a long time, considering we have already been playing for 2 years.

The most important thing is our team is now on attendance sensitive status. We only have 16 available players, minus away Joel and Kai who have other commitments, we are down to 14. I hope everyone can understand that its a tough job to get the attendance, and your quick reply, even if u are not sure if u are free, goes a long way to helping us keep the team going.

The bottomline is: Reply to FB or SMS asap!

Should u have any burning desire that you need to speak out, pls, voice your concerns on the tagboard.

Lastly, Lets play football.

What the future holds

Hopefully, we can play once every 2 weeks even when the school starts. As I try my best to coordinate games, you try your best to come for games. The commitment of the team has never been doubted. With a small squad of only 16 men after 3 guys have red tags on their names to your right, it is really commendable that we are still able to keep it going.

Anyway, u can view Team Orange's match report here.

Update: No game these 2 weekends..

BPFC earns credible draw with Team Orange

Sometimes u just think a certain shaggy xhing on ESPN likes to spout rubbish. But yea, sometimes he is just wrong.

"This is a game of 2 halves."

Indeed.

Up against a more established and from every angle bigger and stronger opponents (then again, since when are we bigger sized than our opponents?), it looks as if we were odds on to lose the game. If live betting from Singapore Pools ever worked for BPFC, i would even bet on Team Orange to win after the early exchanges. We were constantly pressed in our half, albeit not crumbling. We were short on ideas, constantly depending on counter attacks launched aimlessly to first-touch-flick-it-up striker. But still, the most notable thing our keeper had to do in the first half was just a firm solid catch from one of their balls sent in. The commanding presence of newly promoted 4th Choice keeper in Peng Yong proved to be pivotal. After his last minute heroices in saving a certain goal at Marsiling Sec, PY lived up to his name with yet another resounding performance.

The second half proved to be a different story like what shaggy xhing had guessed. Not only did our striker had the audacity to do more back flicks, our fitness appears to be taking us to the next level, exploiting spaces and outrunning opposing defences. T.O. drew first blood when an ubber dubber obvious handball in our box went unspotted by the referee. Their striker latched on to the error and punished us for the referee's mistake. The shot was too fast for stand in keeper Ang to react, henceforth, despite having a touch, the ball trickled into the net. It was Deja vu for the English fans, as Ang appeared to have done a Robert Green, desperately salvaging the ball that seemed destined for the net.

All was not lost. First half keeper PY showed why he was desperate to start outfield despite being late for the game. 1-1 the scorelines reads and we are back. We never looked back since and continued down the flanks, with skillful Lem bursting down the left flank and with that wicked left foot of his, it was only a matter of time before the number 10 got into his stride. Brought down in the penalty box for having too much pace, the number 10 made no mistake this time round in converting the penalty. 2-1.

And as we continued to exert our dominance on the game, disaster struck when a long ball into the defence went uncommunicated, leaving Ang with the last hope of stopping the attacker. The rest was history as I went to pick the ball up from the back of the net.

Perhaps, a draw would be the best result for both teams, in a game played in 2 halves.

25th july

Sunday 25th july. Confirmed.
VS Team Orange
Team Orange Homepage

3pm Jurong West Sec

Playing: Ang, KianT, Guoxing, Lem, PengY, Alan, Yuhao, Alison, Shuheng, Shengjie, Steven
Not playing: Jackson, Kai, Joel, HongYun, Mark

Game confirmed. Anyone able to get a Keeper to play?

Btw, Song's operated knee swelled after an impact on a tackle during last week's game. He has made the painful decision to quit field soccer from now on and will no longer play for the team.

On another note, Kelvin has also announced his decision to retire from field soccer.

Favian is recovering from his damaged ligament, expecting to resume jogging in 6 months.

It seems inevitable that we need permanent recruits into the team, instead of asking friends every time. Do something about it somebody.

Sunday

Tentatively its 3pm at Fuchun Sec. We have enough players for the game, however, the referee has yet to confirm the availability of the game. Though if the game does go on, we are without our first, second and third choice keeper. Someone needs to step up or rotate to be the keeper.

Lets hope everything goes fine and a warm welcome back to the football pitch for everyone!

The perfect way to end a world cup.
