BPFC 6-1 The Reds

Scorers: a hattrick that not many realised till after the game: Alan, PengYong, Yuhao, Steven
Assists: Steven, Yuhao, HongYun, Alan, Bing Xian, Peng Yong

It was a long prematch talk, longest we ever had, attempting to bounce back from a disastrous 3-0 defeat. We had a gameplan and we stuck to the gameplan. Lets not mention about whether a not it was effective or enjoyable, but at least, we achieved the goal we set. That itself was worth celebrating even though one may argue that it was an easy game.

442 we had, passing game we set. First time in our history did we enjoy majority of the possession comfortably, although it was largely amongst the defenders. It may not be a good way to play, i admit we may just die against faster teams, but at least we now know, we can have the ability to play kind of game, another option other than our targetman searching long balls.

A little elaboration from my own point of view. Of course, for me, i enjoy such a game play. I really enjoyed soccer today and i must say its been a long time. We've had so many 5-0 6-0 wins but none of them was enjoyable as today's, well, thats for me at least. The benefit of passing is not only to have more possession, but also, from the first 5 minutes of gameplay, it portrayed a confident team and that will have some effect on the mindset of the opponents. In short, it was a small mind fuck. Also, it improves individual's confidence by touching the ball more often, especially in the first few minutes of the game where most professional teams tend to play simple and let everyone have a feel of the ball. Most importantly, i enjoy possession football.

We might have overdone it in defence. The main aim is to play passing with the midfielders more often and that should be the next thing we look to. Definitely i agree that it is useless just passing around defence. By the way im saying this not to attack shuheng's words but just to voice my opinion and opinions are important for the long term running of this team. Keep everyth to urself and we will split one day. I do hope to play regularly for long.

And so Alan opened up the scoring after a long spell of possession from BPFC. Receiving Yuhao's flick on, Alan cut the opposing sweeper before sending a blast straight above the keeper who had no chance of saving it. 1-0.

It didnt take long for them to reply. For the second half of the first, we were pinned in our own halves for the high pressing game from opponents, the short passing didnt work. That was a time where we really had to play long ball down the flanks but we didnt. And so they replied through Mark after Kai admited that it was partly his mistake to let the ball through. We went into the half at 1-1.

Stamina changed the game and it was almost a one sided second half. A small tweak in tactics saw us playing with 3 up front in Alan, Py and Yuhao, as Steven occupies the 3rd centre mid role. Be it tactics or stamina, PengYong scored early on from a tight angle as he put the ball to the side netting of the far post.

Alan soon made it 3-1 when 2 strikers appeared on the left side together. A one-on-one situation saw him convert his chance comfortably. So where was the right striker?

PengYong soon missed a clear cut chance after placing the ball to the near post. The striker later admitted that he wanted to trick the keeper by not placing it to the far post.

4th goal was a long range effort from Steven. Their outfield converted keeper could only attempt to use his legs but to no avail.

The 5th saw Alan claimed the first hattrick of the year. Good work from PY and a long low cross found Alan totally unmarked on the far post and he only had to tap it in.

6th was from yet another tight angle as Yun's throw in found Yuhao who inturn found the far post.

Pee-peep--PEEP! Full time and 6-1.

Oh and yun, u asked if ur running up and down was effective. Kai didnt hear your qns. He told me after e game that it was really useful and effective..

I see a hard time to choose the MOTM. Personally i thot there should be an option of -everyone played equally well- but i wont put that. Just choose ur player of the day. MOTM must now keep for ball for the next match, in return for his free game.

Club funds stand at $4. Today's game costs a little more at $60.

There will be games on the next 2 weekends if nothing goes wrong. Next saturday against that ex-bpian company team. Nxt nxt sunday against a NTU hall team. To be confirmed.

Finance update.

For those who are interested (none i guess), here is an update of club funds.

Im lazy to type e details coz no one reads anyway. We now have $482 and only Joel is still owing the jersey money. Total jersey price: $487.92. once Joel pays or after tml game, we shud break out of the deficit cycle.

We have 4 balls and i don see the need to pay so much for a game anymore. Especially so on certain days, u should know e reason why.

So depending on the situation and to ease the convenience of collection of money, games are priced at either $5, $2 or free. Club funds will be maintained as close to zero as possible until we see the need to buy new balls or when everyone reached e uncle stage and have outgrown their jerseys.

Ex-RV 3-0 BPFC

Lets start with the brighter things of the game. After a one year lay-off, Song returned to the pitch and started playing football again, despite playing cautiously. He 10-timed his previous playing minutes for BPFC after his introduction today on the 84th minute. It is also the first time that we saw a record attendance of 18 players, the only player missing out was unsettled left back Joel. Kai also made a Vidic clearance that drew jaw dropping comments from the bench. He stuck his boot right in the air to volley away a first time dangerous aerial ball.

We lost and we deserve to lose 3-0. In addition to what Yun has said, I just want to add that when we are losing, impatient attacks like today is not going to bring us anywhere. We all knew we were trying our luck and the goal wudnt come, though song yee came close to pulling one back. Perhaps we need some strategy when we are trailing and play more calm football.

It wasnt a disastrous game, because honestly, this is how we play every game just that we were punished today. And deservingly punished. Everyone just wanted a piece of the attack in the second half.

"I thought i was the striker but there are so many pple higher up front than i am" - Song
"What happen to your team? I was disappointed with your centre mid." Referee Devan

The defence was always seen with 3 at the back but there was not instructions to switch to a back 3 at all.

All in all, we had no shape and were waiting to die. Also, we need to cut down our over reliance on GX to control the game. The team just fell apart when our only 2 central midfielders left the pitch. It was like Man U against Barca, you just know that man u aint gonna create anything for that night.

Well, blame it on the bigger field, the numerous substitutions, at the end of the day, what we can do is just to keep playing and improve along the way, and hopefully, we don lose the joy we started out playing as a team and continue to play down the years, like the age of the teams that played after us.

Next game will be against them, the red team which Yun played for. 20th June 3pm at Yusof Ishak. See you there.

*Singapore pools had an all win because there was no option to vote for no goal. Will update team stats and finance the next time. I believe we have broken out of deficit and the finances are looking green again.

sat game

Game on Saturday 6/6/08
3-5
CCK Sec.

Coming,
Alan, Jackson, Yun, Yuhao, Oon, Kiantat, Kel, Kai, Shengjie, Pengyong, Shuheng, Zhiyuan, Xing, Favian

Not sure,
Alison, Mark

Not coming,
Joel(AGAIN!!!)

Of all your votes, the majority of you have voted for AOP to score first, putting little or no faith in our regular scorers. As part of a player in AOP, i thank you for your vote. haha!

This is the first time where we have almost the entire squad available for the game, especially if both Alison and Mark are playing. Another team photo is likely to be taken due to the large amount of players available. Well, the policy is of course everyone that comes down must at least play. The only positions that have no contenders will well belong to the central midfield where we have only 2 players and you know who they are.

There are now 14 confirmed players with 2 pending. The main question comes in the defence where there are 7 of us. Here comes the Poll:

1. We should mix and match and play 2 different sets of defenders in both halves.
2. We should start the game with the strongest possible lineup. No mix and match.

Even then, option 2 is a little tough as there isnt a first choice defence anymore. Look back at the days where we played on sunday mornings at NUS, Shuheng was just a little boy not knowing what position to play or even thinking through the night of how to score a goal. Thrown on the wings and in the attack, SH felt like a lost bird. Now look back on the team sheet, i cant recall when was the last time the central defence is without him. And his central defence is highly contested by Kelvin, ShengJie and Yun, all of which able to hold down a first team spot anytime. It used to be a certainty that Yun is the best around, a certain doom if he doesnt start a game. But players have rised up and things are looking much better now.

And definitely, we look forward to a day when we say:
Xing and BX not playing? Oh, don worry!
